Playing Tourist in Kuala Lumpur

What better to do in Kuala Lumpur than spend it with friends eating and shopping? Voon, Reena and I spent the day playing tourist at one of KL’s wonderful malls. We picked up a few things, even though I couldn’t really spare the room in my backpack. Then we spent ages wandering around the food court before figuring out what we wanted to eat.

Afterwards, we caught a cultural performance at the tourist center. There weren’t many people in the audience, which was such a shame as the dancers were quite amazing. Their colorful outfits and lively dances truly captured the spirit of all the people in Malaysia. Dances from the Malay, Chinese, Indian and Orang Asli (indigenous people) culture demonstrated how diverse Malaysia is and what wonders are found here.

I managed to capture most of it on video that I’ve broken into three separate sections:

Once the performance was over, we headed to get the touristy photos done with the Petronas Towers in the background. Loads of people gathered around this one spot so they could get the perfect photo, and we slid right in and joined the crazy people. However, I must admit that the buildings are definitely striking and beautiful when they’re lit up at night against the black sky. Once the obligatory shots were completed, we wrapped up the night with some frappuccinos and hot chips.

It’s days like this that I think about how lucky I am to be alive and living my traveling dreams. I’ve made so many amazing friends from all over this world and appreciate how unique and beautiful this experience is.
